TEMO are an innovative French company who look at solutions in a different way. We'd already taken a close look at the TEMO·450, with its extendable pole, rather than the traditional shape of engine housing at the top, and now we've tried the TEMO·1000, which again defies the norm.

There has been a proliferation of electric outboards on the market, but many follow the traditional shape of an internal combustion engine outboard, housing the battery on the top where the engine would have been.

Electric outboards have the motor at the bottom of the shaft, inline with the propeller, meaning there is no gearing in the shaft itself. With the TEMO·1000 this space is now utilized for the battery, lowering the centre of gravity, and completely eliminating the top housing.

The battery is interchangeable and can be simply lifted out and dropped back into the shaft, while the steering handle can also be stowed inside the shaft, making the TEMO·1000 extremely compact and portable.

Designed for dinghies, and sailing boats up to 8 metres, the 1100W motor offers a static thrust of 28kg, the equivalent of a 3HP traditional outboard.

The retractable tiller also means that the outboard can be fixed centrally on yachts and dinghies which have a rudder or extended when using for both propulsion and steering.

The controls are incredibly simple, with a twist grip providing acceleration, and simply twisting the other way to go astern.

The rotating mounting continues the innovation, able to rotate through a full 360 degrees, and lock the shaft out of the water. With this rotation and it can be stowed conveniently parallel to the transom, freeing up space astern and on deck.

The 949 Wh lithium-ion battery provides 45 minutes of power at full speed, or 1.5 hours at cruising speed, and can be charged via 12, 24 or 220 volts and takes 5 hours 30 minutes to fully recharge. The total weight of the outboard is 15kg, of which 5kg is the battery. The TEMO·1000 is rated IP67 waterproof. Additional batteries are available for long cruises and additional peace of mind. There is a two-year warranty on all products.

Why not join the silent revolution in 2024? The TEMO1000 is emission-free and available now via the team at Marine Products Direct. Find out more at marine-products-direct.com/product/temo-1000-electric-outboard-engine
