Tasars are well suited to shifty conditions because:

1) no kite to go up and down all the time, and no trap to be in and out on.

2)  because they can plane on all points of sailing and do so a lot earlier on the fetch than many much faster PY boats (ie when you suddenly lay the windward mark half way up the course!)

In terms of water line racing though you need a lot of finesse to get them moving to their PY, but the best at QMSC would keep up with RS400s upwind.

On a very small "pond" you will be at an advantage having no kite, but at a disadvantage in coming in and out of planing mode. It takes time and space to get into upwind planing which you maybe don't have, and they can dig a trench on the dead run in light airs without real fine balance and trim.There is a big bump on the hull's drag curve to climb up and it slides down it quickly!

One other good thing is the resale, which is easy enough given a good boat even if it is old. There are pockets of OD racing around the country and interest in the boat with the new mylars. Easy resale is really worth thinking about if you are not sure about a boat, i.e. want to give it a 'fair go' , or want to move on to a sub PY1000 boat later.

 A lot of other classes, with budget boats means old, worn parts and soft hulls, or in a development class like the NS14, a potentially obselescent boat on your hands.
