With only a handful of boats still at sea on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, Crosbie Lorimer and Wendi Lanham wrap up coverage of the 75th Rolex Sydney Hobart with a selection of the race’s highlights and a look ahead to some of the changes we can expect in next year’s race.
Day Four Finish From the Air
A strong southerly breeze brought the Day 4 finishers home and we captured some of the line crossings in front of the Hobart city skyline with our drone on a beautiful afternoon.
Komatsu Azzurro – Shane Kearns
Komatsu Azzurro had another fine race south taking out first place in IRC Division 7. Shane Kearns tells us something of their race
OTHER VIDEOS FROM THE RACE – SUPERMAXI FINISHES
Second to Fifth Place - Supermaxis
Barely had Comanche’s dockside celebrations commenced for her Line Honours win when a four way super maxi battle on the Derwent River could be seen in the background, playing out between InfoTrack, Wild Oats XI, Scallywag and Black Jack, the four yachts finished in that order
Scallywag - David Witt
Scallywag was pipped into fourth place by Wild Oats XI in the last few hundred metres of the race. Despite Scallywag’s excellent performance, leading for large parts of the run south, as you’ll hear David Witt is never happy with anything but a win!
Scallywag - Grant Warrington
Grant Warrington returned to the supermaxi scene to assist David Witt with steering and tactics aboard Scallywag. He tells us about their race and of some of the elements of supermaxi evolution that has happened since his days racing his own boat Wild Thing to Hobart.
