Day 2 of the 2020 RS Aero UK Nationals provided another windy day but this time with a northerly straight off the land. The fleet had the interesting racing challenge of shifts and gusts as the wind came of the shore with a thorough test of technique, race craft and frequent mode changing as the wind varied dramatically as the fleet sailed up the course.
In the RS Aero 7s Sam Whaley continued to stretch out a good lead with Greg Bartlett, Peter Barton and Tim Hire having a close tussle behind.
Mike Wood of the RAF and Draycote has now taken the lead in the R Aero 5s with an impressive 2,2,1 with Andrew Frost, David Peaty and Leo Wilkinson all in the chase a few points back.
Shoreside activity managed to include the customary daily prize-giving and Top Tips from the day's leaders, held outside one fleet at a time to enable social distancing. Similarly at the end of the day the Class' annual AGM was similarly helf outside before dinner at the Club.
More fresh offshore winds are forecast again for Sunday with blue skies hopefully making another appearance too.
Stay tuned to check out the movers and shakers after a few rusty racers start to step into their stride.
