Sika adhesives and sealants - strong and sustainable

Sika is a speciality chemicals manufacturer with a clear focus on reducing environmental impact. Their sustainability strategy "more value, less impact" aligns their commitment to producing high quality products with the goal of minimising waste and pollution, both in manufacturing and through the longevity of the product. Sika products do not use ingredients such as tin and phthalates which can be harmful to marine life.

Upffront are pleased to introduce six Sika products to our range.

Sealants

Sikaflex® 591 - Sika's flagship multifunctional marine sealant

Sikaflex®-591 is a multipurpose hybrid sealant based on Sika's Silane Terminated Polymer (STP) technology, designed specifically for marine applications. This top class sealant is IMO (international maritime organisation) approved, robust and mould resistant. It can be used both internally and externally and is UV and salt water resistant. This sealant sets the benchmark in terms of environmental and safety standards from an ecological point of view thanks to it's ethical and wildlife safe ingredients.

This sealant is suitable for: Elastic, vibration-resistant joint seals and for a wide variety of interior and exterior sealing applications.

Sikaflex® 295 UV - Exterior sealant and direct glazing adhesive for glass

Sikaflex 295 UV is an adhesive sealant specifically designed to bond to glass, but it can be used for other interior and exterior sealing applications. Sikaflex 295 UV is made of 1 component polyurethane and has a paste like consistency.

This sealant is suitable for: Bonding organic glass in interior and exterior sealing applications. Aluminium (bright or anodized), GRP (polyester resin), stainless steel, timber, 2-component coatings and plastic glazing materials (PC, PMMA).

Adhesives

Sikaflex® 292i - Multipurpose Adhesive

A paste like adhesive that cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture. It is a high quality adhesive with good mechanical strength that again, does not contain any chemicals harmful to marine life. 292i also meets the low spread of flame requirements set out by the IMO.

This adhesive is suitable for: A wide variety of substrates including aluminium (including anodized finishes), metal primers and paint coatings (2-component systems), ceramic materials, plastics such as GRP (unsaturated polyester resin).

Sikaflex® 298 - Bedding Adhesive

Sikaflex 298 is a thixotropic 1-component polyurethane adhesive to be used specifically for teak deck bedding.

This adhesive is suitable for: Bonding deck covering materials made from synthetic resins (except polyethylene and polypropylene), and for bedding-in of teak plank decking laid on top of the sub deck surface.

Primers

This activator is designed to be used as a primer for sealants and adhesives such as the Sikaflex adhesives and sealants. While it is not essential, it can help to ensure that your adhesive or solvent bonds correctly and increase the longevity of the bond. Simply use this primer before to enhance the effects of your adhesive or sealant.

This activator is suitable for: priming any surface that you will use a Sikaflex adhesive or sealant including many metals such as aluminium, steel, galvanized steel and non-ferrous metal, on wood such as teak, mahogany, Oregon pine and cork.

Sika® MultiPrimer Marine - Clear primer for Sika® 1 component polyurethane

Sika multiPrimer Marine is a clear primer used to prime surfaces for 1 component polyurethane such as the Sikaflex 295 UV for glass and Sikaflex -298. The primer is clear and acts to bond faces before the adhesive is applied.

This primer is suitable for: Metals, plastics, ceramic screen prints and painted surfaces.
