The Club is a small, friendly sailing club, located at Ulley Country Park between Rotherham and Sheffield and catering for both racing and casual sailing. Families are especially welcome and the emphasis is on enjoyment, not just out and out racing. In 2009 USC obtained Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) status which recognises that the Club is accessible and welcoming to all sections of the local community without fear of any type of discrimination.
From 2007 to 2010, the Club's activities were seriously affected by the near failure of the dam wall at Ulley reservoir and its subsequent repair, but the Club has been flourishing and growing ever since its return to normal operation in September 2010. This success was recognised in November 2011 when HRH Princess Anne presented our Commodore, Mark Burkitt, with a Royal Yachting Association Volunteer Award for his Outstanding Contribution to Boating.
In March 2013 the RYA recognised the whole Club's enthusiasm and commitment to promoting the sport of dinghy sailing by awarding it a Certificate of Commendation. In April 2013, the RYA also granted the Club the status of Recognised Training Centre, allowing the Club to run approved training courses and issue RYA certificates of sailing competence.
USC boasts many personal achievements over the years, with many of its members having gained national titles in their fleets. One of the Club's proudest achievements is as the home club of Paul Goodison, Olympic Gold Medallist.
