MSDS RS200 Northern Tour at Covenham Sailing Club

by Ian Smith 11 Oct 2004 05:08 PDT 10 October 2004

The final round of the 2004 MSDS RS200 Northern Tour was held at Covenham Sailing Club in Lincolnshire. With 17 boats on the water and a solid Easterly F4 gusting F5 it was not only going to be a day of fun, but also the event to decide the series places, Kieth Eskritt and Ann Saul (YDSC) needing only to finish better than 11th to win the series from early leaders Dan & Sean Vernon (Rotherham), Martin & Barbara Smith(Delph) were also had chasing them hard.

Over the 5 races sailed Eskritt and Saul were the only crew that didn’t take a swim and only the boom falling off during a gybe in race five saw them finish out of the top 5, the Vernon boys chances of holding onto the series took a further blow, literally when Dan suffered a hit by the boom resulting in a visit to casualty, the Smiths had done just enough to secure second place making their long journey well worth the effort.

Overall Results:

1 Mike Saul & Sophie Hartley (YDSC/Ripon)
2 Edd Whitehead & Stephanie Kirk (Filey)
3 Keith Eskritt & Ann Saul (YDSC)
4 Andrew & Eve Hartley (Ripon)
5 Martin & Barbara Smith (Delph)

Full series results are at www.ripon-sc.org.uk

A great days sailing and a big thank you to everyone at Covenham for working so hard to make the event a success and providing a fitting end to the series.

Thanks also to Mike Saul for sponsoring the event.
