IOM Europeans at Sailing Club of Rijeka, Cres, Croatia - Day 2

by Icarus Sailing Media 20 Nov 2012 23:32 PST 17-24 November 2012

The game is on!

With a full day scheduled, the sailors began their day early on Tuesday morning, having more than 15 races waiting ahead. The weather was tricky with gusts reaching 16 knots and many shifts due to the location of the course area. All that meant a really challenging task for the 74 competitors that started preparing their equipment around 8am.

The first start was given at 9am sharp with the 3rd race for Heat C that was not concluded yesterday. Then the next two Heats followed for race 3 to be completed. Brad Gibson from UK continued his good performance and after scoring a second place remained at the top of the leader board.

Then it was just routine procedure for the race committee that was clearing one race after the other, reaching at the end of the day the total number of 18 races. Brad Gibson managed to be in the top 3 boats in almost every race and thus he retained his lead. Nonetheless, France's Alexis Carre has an equally good pace so far, and is only two points behind Gibson. The surprise of the day was Pierluigi Puthod from Italy who managed to climb 7 places from yesterday and is now in third overall.

Tomorrow lighter winds are forecast and the leaders will have to adjust to the conditions to keep their place. Many great battles are expected. So join us again tomorrow for the fourth day of the IOM Europeans... The island of Cres is seeing some impressive sailing action so far!
