Lakeland and Border Laser Grand Prix at St. Mary's Loch Sailing Club

by Jonathan Nicoll 6 Oct 2014 00:45 PDT 4 October 2014

Eighteen sailors entered the penultimate round of the Rooster sponsored Lakeland and Border Laser Grand Prix held at St. Mary's Loch S.C. on October 4th.

St Mary was in one of her better moods as the deluge which filled the becks and burns the night before gave way to largely blue skies and sunshine, which while not exactly warm took the edge off the single-digit temperatures.

The scenery was fantastic, as was the welcome from the host club, and even the wind played ball, building from Force 3 to 5 during the afternoon.

Racing was close with David Martin, Finn Mitchell, Tim Luke and Tony Bamforth all leading the first race at some point before Tony got his nose in front for the win. In the second race he had a good tussle with David who eventually came out on top.

As the wind blew up to Force 5 for the third race David found conditions much more to his liking and built a commanding lead to take the race and the event.

The final round is at Annandale S.C. on Ocober 11th. All sailors who complete four events will win a prize and be eligible for the national draw to win a Wildwind sailing holiday.

Overall Results:

1st David Martin (Berwick S.C.)
2nd Tony Bamforth (Annandale S.C.)
3rd Tim Luke (Killington Sailing Association)
1st Youth Finn Mitchell (Annandale S.C.)
1st Lady & 1st Radial, Ailsa Redpath (St Mary's Loch S.C.)
