Tudor Sailing Club will host an Open Day on May 17 as part of the Royal Yachting Association's Push The Boat Out scheme.

Last year, 260 clubs and centres in Britain hosted Push the Boat Out events with 17,000 people trying sailing or windsurfing for the first time over one weekend, resulting in over 1,000 new sign-ups across the country.

This month, Tudor Sailing Club (TSC) have organised cruising yachts and dinghies available for taster sails, while there will be RIB rides, tours of the club, a bar and barbecue as well as games for children throughout the day.

Prospective members who apply on the day will also benefit from a special open-day offer of no joining fee, saving £150, and reduced subscriptions are available for those aged 25 and under.

TSC Commodore Richard Gunn believes the open day will offer a great opportunity for first-timers to get on the water at clubs along the south coast.

"We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out and invite the local community to come down to our club," said Gunn.

"Everyone can come and have a go at sailing, see what the club has to offer, get involved and hopefully get hooked on sailing."

TSC also have exciting development plans for the coming season.

And with a thriving junior section and competitive weekly racing, Rear Commodore, Hannah Barnes is convinced these are exciting times for the Eastern Road club.

She said: "Sailing is perceived to be quite an expensive sport, and it's really not – the open day is a great opportunity for everyone to try it.

"We are applying to Sport England for a grant to buy three new boats for young adults and families and first-time sailors to use.

"And hopefully, by the end of the summer, we will have these to offer."

We welcome you to visit TSC and see what we have to offer at our family friendly club.

All you need to bring with you is a bucket load of enthusiasm, a pair shoes that you don't mind getting wet, a change of clothes, a jacket as it can get cold on the water and a towel. We currently have yacht moorings and dinghy compound spaces available and offer great value sailing with excellent access to the Solent.
