American entries in the RORC Caribbean 600

Thirteen boats representing the USA will be competing in this year's 10th anniversary edition of the Caribbean's famous offshore race - the RORC Caribbean 600. They include past winner, George Sakellaris' Proteus Maxi 72 (overall winner in 2016 and in 2014 with his previous RP72 Shockwave), Ron O'Hanley's Cookson 50 Privateer and George David who secured victory with Rambler 100 in 2011 and who still holds the monohull record for the race. Last year David took line honours with Rambler 88.

The record-breaking fleet of 90 yachts will see teams from 22 nations battle it out over 600 nautical miles as they race non-stop around 11 spectacular islands, starting and finishing in Antigua. It's a tough challenge, famous for numerous sail changes, manoeuvres and navigational conundrums. Such is the draw of the race that it attracts some of the world's top offshore sailors to compete. The crew list is an A-Z of America's Cup, Volvo Ocean Race and round the world sailors, but the race is also on the bucket list for regular RORC racers and serious corinthian crews seeking a personal challenge.

The USA holds the record for securing the coveted RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy, presented to the overall winner under IRC. Out of nine editions of the race, six have been won by American owners.

With less than a week to go, the RORC Race Team are in situ at Antigua Yacht Club Marina and skippers have started to complete their registration process ahead of Monday's start on 19th February. First off at 1100 the line which is just outside the historic English Harbour under the Pillars of Hercules startline will be the combined fleet of IRC 2, 3 and CSA. This will be followed by IRC 1 and Class40s at 1110, IRC Zero & Superyachts at 1120 and the final start at 1130 for the nine multihulls in the race.
