GOST® (Global Ocean Security Technologies), a world leader in marine security, tracking, monitoring and video surveillance systems, announced today that its GOST Nav-Tracker 1.0 tracking system lead to the safe recovery of a 34-foot Regulator after the boat was stolen in Miami Beach, Florida. From the time the boat began moving until it was recovered, only 49 minutes passed, setting a new record for speed of recovery. The previous record was 54 minutes, set in 2009.
The thieves took the vessel, ironically called "Can't Touch This," in the evening of May 13th. When an armed geo-fence was breached, the onboard GOST Nav-Tracker alerted the owner, who then notified the authorities. The United States Coast Guard closed in on the boat in Miami Beach and found the boat at a bridge abutment where the thieves abandoned it.
"We have trusted GOST to track our boats since 2011 and am happy to report that the system performed exactly to specification giving us immediate geofence alerts," said Captain JD Ducanes. "We contacted USCG Miami, who had assets in the area and responded quickly, ensuring our vessel was returned safely."
"Time and again our systems are proven to globally track vessels, effectively alert our customers of potential theft conditions and lead the authorities to successful recoveries," said Brian Kane, chief technology officer, GOST. "In addition to protecting our customers' investments, there is an ongoing epidemic of high-end center consoles being used for human and drug smuggling. Now, more than ever it is vital to know the location and condition of your boat and we are proud to offer products trusted by thousands to do just that."
The GOST Nav-Tracker is a global tracking device, offering reliable, remote vessel tracking. The Nav-Tracker sends boat owners and managers the vessel name, latitude, longitude, speed and heading at preselected intervals via text message and email. It is designed specifically for tracking a stolen vessel or so family and friends can remotely provide support if the boat is in peril, or notify maritime authorities if there is a deviation from the float plan.
