Focus Power 33 - Filling the popular sports cruiser niche

by Focus Boats 27 Feb 2019 02:11 PST

Fans of zippy, versatile sports cruisers rejoice – the sleek, stylish and spacious Focus Power 33 will fill the gap in the wake of iconic, departed marques such as Mustang and Sunrunner.

Bursting with features and head-turning European appeal, Focus Power 33 is a 10m cruiser with a generous 3.47m beam, designed by world-renowned naval architect Tony Castro and awarded Boat of the Year Europe in 2015.

McIntyre Equipment is the exclusive importer for Focus, following a decade of research into the global offering in this popular but sparsely populated segment.

"I have spent many years undertaking market investigation looking for a stand-out sports cruiser that would accommodate our Steyr engines and 'wow' the Australian marketplace," explains Rob McIntyre, director at McIntyre Equipment in Brisbane, representatives for Steyr Motors Australia.

"Our aim is to expand our recreational market, showcase the benefits of the Steyr product and introduce this amazing sports cruiser, with all the support of a national service network."

Sanctuary Cove Boat Sales, the team behind Hurricane Boats Australia, based at Sanctuary Cove, will represent the Focus brand and will host the Australian launch of Focus at this year's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, 23 to 26 May.

"We have a great range of day boats in the Hurricane deck boat range, and now we can offer a beaut little weekender," said Grant Flanagan, Director at Hurricane Boats Australia.

"The Focus Power 33 is ideally suited to families, couples, groups of friends who could happily cruise, spend a day or a week onboard," Grant added.

Based in Holland and with production in Croatia, Focus Motor Yachts pride themselves on "building motor yachts using only the best materials and construction techniques to impart a strong sense of quality and longevity".

Rob is enamoured with the Focus Power 33, impressed with their build quality, contemporary shape and generous list of features.

"Many other boats over the years have tried to fill that niche, but they've had a square, unsophisticated look.

"The Focus Power 33 breaks the mould! It's versatile, generously sized, boasting two private cabins with two doors, so owners and guests can sleep in comfort in proper beds. You can stand up and get dressed in both cabins, hang your clothes, which is remarkable for a 33ft boat."

The design and format of the Focus Power 33 will suit the Australian boating lifestyle with several areas onboard for people to reside to during their time onboard. In addition to being at home on the Moreton bay or Sydney harbour, the Focus 33 steps above the rest in its offshore capabilities with deep-vee hull for superior seakeeping for those transits between Brisbane and the Fraser coast or Sydney to Pittwater in less than perfect weather.

On the Focus Power 33, the main galley is lower, leaving plenty of room for the saloon lounge upstairs with a massive folding cockpit table. There's a barbecue or grill option off the back of the boat or on the side for fuss-free preparation of meals."

In terms of power, the boat is fitted with twin Steyr Motors 266S36, 260hp engines, which is an upgrade from the boats standard 220Hp engines but can accommodate the smaller 230Hp or larger 280Hp motors in the same envelope.

"The 266 engines take the boat from 32 knots to around 37 knots," said Rob. "It certainly gives the boat more legs as you can comfortably cruise at 30 knots, meaning more economical fuel consumption and longer range."

The central steering position is unique to Focus, allowing equal visibility. "The slightly raised helm station means you can lower a foot platform and put your head through the roof, sporty style! This soft retractable roof can be pulled back for a full sunroof. It's very versatile!"

Yet another unique feature, which conveys the superior quality of the brand, is the bespoke build process, which involves manual lamination over vacuum infusion or chop strand mat.

"Consistency of lamination can be varied, but with hand lamination, the glass wovings are hand cut by fastidious ladies to patterns. These ladies are selected on their skills, repeating process to same standard for every vessel," says Rob.

"Hand lamination allows greater quality control over areas such as bubbles and other imperfections within the laminate, which is crucial in the prevention of osmosis and the avoidance of structural de-lamination."

"It has walkaround side decks, easy access steps up each side of the vessel, sunpads on the foredeck, a rear cockpit table that lowers to create a sunbed, engine access in the floor, and a two-seater helm. There's a lot to love about the Focus Power 33."

The dynamic Focus Power 33 will make its Australia debut as part of the Sanctuary Cove Boat Sales-Hurricane line-up at the 2019 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, 23 to 26 May. Replete with options and extras, including Simrad navigation equipment, the first model will be priced at $499,000.
