We had a fantastic open meeting at Papercourt Sailing Club on Sunday 2nd June, with mixed sunshine and cloud making it pleasantly warm, with a good stiff breeze gently building through the day.

As it is typical for Papercourt they were plenty of gusts and shifts making the event challenging for all, and challenging enough for a handful of sailors to fall in.

We had 10 Standard rings sailors with seven Radials and one 4.7, and surprisingly only one lady for the combined fleets.

The strongest representation was from Papercourt with a number of travellers particularly from Maidenhead - thanks guys for coming along.

Two races before lunch and two back to back afterwards were supplemented by a delicious all-inclusive lunch and then plenty of delicious cakes for afternoon tea.

Our happy winners in the Standard fleet, were Gary Bullock from Maidenhead who came first; Paul Robinson from Datchet, second; and William Birchall from Papercourt in third place.

In the Radial fleet, George Lane swooped in from Broxbourne, borrowing my boat in the process and showing me that it is not the craft that matters, but the sailor! James Hall from Papercourt was close on his tail in second place, with Aaron Evans form Silverwing third. Well done to all of you.

The event had additional sponsorship from Sailing Chandlery and the bonus prize went to Sam from Papercourt the stoical 4.7 sailor. Many thanks to Sailing Chandlery and to all those who participated as well as Jill Hamment for doing the catering and Martin and Alison Smith for being the race officers, and finally to Frazer Haydn for presenting the prizes.
