The Leinster Topper Championship was hosted by Courtown Sailing Club, Co Wexford, Ireland on 17th/18th June. 29 sailors travelled from counties Antrim, Down, Fermanagh, Limerick, Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford.

Saturday was a beautiful day with a steady sea breeze of 12 knots, producing choppy conditions which certainly proved challenging for the lighter sailors. There were 4 races on the first day, after which Conor Simms from Ballyholme YC, with three out of four race wins, was lying 2 points ahead of local sailor Simon Doran from Courtown SC. Many tired young sailors came alive at the bowling and crazy golf event on saturday evening.

There were two races on day 2 in shifty southerly winds which blew up to 18 knots. The race officer, Michael Doyle, took great care to provide fair beats and lines. Maria Dolan from Blessington Sailing Club and Simon Doran CSC were the respective winners of these two races. However, Conor Simms was a consistent second and had enough in the bag to win the event, with Simon Doran the runner-up, and Maria Dolan in third and also the First Lady.

The event was a good pre-cursor to the forth-coming Worlds in Lake garda in July.
