With everything to play for the final day dawned sunny and windless, but as predicted at 1pm the sea breeze arrived and the fleet set off for two more races in sunshine and fine winds.
There were a number of 'U'. Flag casualties in the first race including title contender Raines Koby and Stephanie Mah. Barney Harris taking the win with Neville Herbert and Mark Fowler 3rd. That result gave the championship to Neville and Mark with runners up to be decided in the final race.
The Lonsdales were first to the windward mark, they were overtaken by UK class Commodore Jerry Rook ably crewed by his niece Holly Neatby sailing in her first ever Dinghy championship. They maintained this lead on the first set of wonderful planing reaches and were eventually to take the win with the help of a terrific luffing duel between Barney and Raines to decide second overall.
The event has been a spectacular success in this remote and delightful corner of Canada. The visitors from the UK have been warmly welcomed and enjoyed the company of the many American and Canadian Albacore sailors who have become good friends over the many years of these biennial championships. The next Internationals will be held in the UK at Pwllheli in Wales in 2 years time.
