The new Velocitek V2 ProStart is the distillation of more than a decade of experience and customer feedback building stand-alone, GPS-based, distance-to-line starting aids. It's all about time and distance.

The new V2 ProStart has the same core functionality as the V1 unit but now features crystal-clear optics, zero-latency navigation, and a multi-colour backlight.

Core Prostart functions:

  • Countdown timer - To the start gun in minutes/seconds
  • Distance to line - Positive and negative distance to line displayed in meters

  • Start line pacing guides - In the final minute the unit will indicate whether you are on track to be early or late to the line
  • Speed - This is a calculated GPS value
  • Magnetic compass heading - A solid-state geomagnetic (compass) sensor provides magnetic heading
  • Course over ground - Magnetic Heading can be changed to show Course over Ground
  • Heel angle - Simple visual indicator of heel angle which is logged with the other boat data and provides excellent post-race analysis

V2 Prostart - Key Improvements:

High visibility in all conditions
A bonded Gorilla® Glass display with sharp white on black digits shows up crystal clear, even using polarised sunglasses. A user selectable white / red LED backlight takes care of night sailing or other low light situations.

Zero-Latency Aerospace-Grade Navigation
A 72 channel, 18Hz multi-constellation GPS receiver combined with a 100Hz solid-state 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a patented high-precision 3-axis geomagnetic sensor gives you accurate distance, speed and heading information with zero lag time.

75-Hour Li-Ion Battery
Chargeable using any USB port or phone charger the V2 Prostart has 5x the battery life of the previous model which means you can charge it at the beginning of a week-long regatta and then forget about it.

High-Speed, High-Capacity Data Logging
The ProStart records position, time, course over ground, speed over ground, magnetic heading and heel angle four times per second. The 8GB onboard flash memory has enough room for 1000 hours of sailing data.

Replay Anywhere
When you plug the new ProStart into any Mac, PC or Linux computer it shows up as an external drive with your track files on it. You can drag and drop these files into browser based replay software like Charted Sails or Njord Analytics, without having to install anything on your computer.

Conclusion

The Velocitek Prostart has a well-earned reputation for focusing on its core functionality and doing it well. It looks great, is easy to use and the V2 Prostart delivers some significant improvements on the previous model.
