Two weeks until Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta 2021

by Melvyn Steiner 6 Feb 2021 17:59 PST 20-21 February 2021

Yet another reminder - yes I know, you have a lot on your plate and this is not a priority, but it is! It takes time to prepare for a major regatta and you need to start early, so don't put it on the backburner, get your entry in now, start your fundraising effort and oh, don't forget the Heaven Can Wait Charity Dinner on Friday February 19.

You can enter the regatta and buy tickets for the dinner via the Heaven Can Wait website - www.heavencanwait.com.au.

The focus at the dinner this year is youth sailing - young sailing talent - locals who are already doing well on the local and in some cases, world stages. There has been one change to the guest list and they now are Harry Miller (16 yo), Thomas Steenson (18 yo), Chelsea Williams (17 yo), Callum Marsh (16 yo) and Sarah Petherbridge (21). All sail from Belmont 16's, NCYC or the Toronto Amatuer Club in flying 11s, 16 ft skiffs and Elliott's 6s and 7s (7s in Sydney), and Sailboards. Harry, Thomas and Chelsea have all done match racing at international regattas in Sydney and Sarah is an instructor with NCYC. All will be interviewed by Helene O'Neil - well known ABC Newcastle Sports Commentator, who has supported the Charity Dinner over many years with her ability to bring out the best in the people she interviews.

As you would know, the Heaven Can Wait Regatta is a charity sailing regatta In support of the Hunter Branch of Cancer Council NSW. Specifically, it funds their Home Help Program which provides domestic support to both recovering and terminal cancer patients who - because of their condition, are unable to fulfil their domestic responsibilities. A small amount of the funds raised also goes to Lake Macquarie Marine Rescue who provide on water support during the running of the regatta. There are events for all skill levels ranging from a Dinghy / Sailboard Dash, A short One Lap Dash, and Classic Long One Lap Dash, a Challenging 12 Hour race and a 24 Hour Endurance race, so why not put your skills to the test.

If you are one of the people that would normally have been a Heaven Can Wait participant, but will be unable to partake this year, why not consider making a donation to the cause that this regatta supports. You can do that by making a donation at www.doitforcancer.com.au/fundraisers/GeneralDonationstoHeavenCanWaitCharitySailingRegatta739.

For those of you that are planning to enter the 2021 Heaven Can Wait Regatta - the 15th running of the event, why not do the right thing and get your entry in now at www.heavencanwait.com.au.

We look forward to seeing you on the 19th for the Charity Dinner and / or the 20th for the regatta.
