After the cancellation of the 2020 event and a brief postponement from the event's original 2021 dates in late April, the Palma International Boat Show is set to take place June 3-6, 2021. As the new dates coincide with the re-opening of many of the island's hotels, the Port of Palma's Marina Moll Vell will be bustling with activity as well as an enviable array of yachts on display.

Located at Berth #121, Horizon Yacht Europe will showcase the first hull of the Cor D. Rover-designed FD75, the owner/operator-capable model of the highly acclaimed high-volume Fast Displacement Series of motor yachts. The FD75 is distinguished from other yachts in its size range by the ample interior and exterior space provided by the yacht's 6.2m (20' 4") beam, as well as the yard's proprietary High-Performance Piercing Bow and hull design that affords supreme comfort and stability. Its design aims to satisfy owners looking to either downsize from the excess management of a larger yacht or enjoy the benefits of a mini superyacht without the need for a large crew.

Offering quarters for two crew and a total of four guest staterooms - including a semi-on-deck master that shares a split level with the pilothouse - the FD75 boasts a spacious open-plan salon that embodies the FD Series' high-volume philosophy.

Guests who board the FD75 are welcomed by an inviting aft deck area with freestanding furniture. Folding glass panel doors extend the indoor/outdoor area into the bright and airy main salon. Highlighted by light oak flooring and expansive windows, the salon features an L-shaped sofa to starboard. Opposite is a convertible breakfast table with chairs facing the window to port, that can be extended for more formal dining when required.

In the open plan galley forward, the full-height refrigerators, appliances and storage are disguised behind a slatted wall feature that lights to the touch to open. A thoughtful splash guard pops up when the sink is in use and a long countertop with a waterfall edge offers additional seating for cocktails or snacks.

Owner operators are provided the flexibility of both an interior helm station as well as a flybridge aboard the FD75. Incorporating this interior helm station as well as a semi-on-deck master posed a design challenge, which Horizon's engineering team and the Vision shipyard resolved by designing a semi-raised pilothouse and a stepped-down master in a split-level plan that still allowed for a spacious open flybridge and no compromise to the FD signature profile.

Down three steps from the split-level helm station, the master stateroom is fitted into the bow forward. This cozy space spans the yacht's beam and incorporates an en suite with a toilet and shower. The television folds down from the ceiling while a skylight above the bed adds to the natural lighting brought in by the large windows.

Continuing the slatted wood feature found in the galley area above, the lower deck foyer utilizes mirrors for a spacious effect. The lower deck accommodations aboard Hull 1 include a single guest cabin to starboard, a convertible twin to port and an ensuite VIP amidships.

The flybridge aboard the FD75 is a splendid retreat, where a helm station and twin chairs are positioned forward, followed by a bar area with three bar stools. A dining table to starboard will be the preferred al fresco dining area while a comfortable seating area to port invites cocktails and relaxation. The boat deck can be fitted with freestanding loungers while the tender is launched. In yet another ingenious design offering for a 75-footer, Horizon maximized the foredeck area, incorporating seating and sunpads just forward of the wheelhouse.

It's what's below the waterline that continues to distinguish the yachts in the FD Series in their competitive set, however, and the FD75 has been built with Horizon's proprietary High Performance Piercing Bow and hull design that has been proven to provide tremendous stability in less than optimal sea conditions. The FD75 Hull 1 has been specified for the European market and is fitted with twin MAN D2868 diesels of 1,200hp each. Couple her performance and accommodations with near-limitless options for owner customization - including the incorporation of a beach club - and it's easy to understand why this model deserves credit for changing the game.
