X Shore, a Swedish brand driving the future of electric, connected and sustainable boating, has announced the site of its second factory will be located in Nyköping, a town one hour south of Stockholm, Sweden.
The new factory will allow for the increased production of X Shore's flagship model, the Eelex 8000 2021 Edition, which is currently being shipped to three continents across the world.
At the new site in Nyköping, X Shore intends to build the most sustainable and modern boat manufacturing facility in the world by having significantly lower industrial emissions and including more automation and robotisation in its production line.
The new factory space measures 15,000m2 and will have an initial boat building capacity of 400 vessels per year, employing approximately 100 new staff in addition to the 50+ based in Stockholm and the United States. Production at Nyköping is set to begin before the end of 2021.
At present, X Shore purchases all of its composite parts, including its hulls, from subcontractors, and assembly is then carried out at the company's first factory in Frihamnen, based in the old port in Stockholm. The new factory in Nyköping will provide the much-needed space to allow X Shore to include its complete assembly line and to make all the necessary composite parts itself in a more sustainable way, including the hull, through a mixture of manual labour, automation and robotisation.
The planned increase in X Shore's production capacity has been made possible due to a rapidly growing order book and a successful round of funding closed earlier this year, when the company secured a €15 million injection of capital backed by a group of investors in the e-mobility, sustainability, and electrification space.
Valued at $90 million pre-round, the funding was led by Team Europe - the technology holding company from the mobility and clean energy-focused European entrepreneur, investor and Delivery Hero founder, Lukasz Gadowski - alongside other individuals with backgrounds in electrification.
Jenny Keisu, CEO of X Shore, comments "We are looking forward to building the world's most sustainable and modern boat production facility with a capacity of 400 boats per year. In recent months, we have been having very productive conversations with the municipality of Nyköping and we are delighted that we can now establish ourselves here, together creating the future of sustainable electric boat manufacturing. We have a great need to employ locally in Nyköping, especially those with an industrial background, everything from managers to engineers, operators and warehouse staff. Initially there will be about a hundred jobs and we hope that there will be more as the site progresses."
Working at the intersection of technology and boats, X Shore built its first commercial model, the Eelex 8000 2021 edition, to be entirely connected and sustainable. The Eelex 8000 features a number of innovations, including its proprietary mobile and smartwatch app, which unlocks and turns on the boat when in range, smart overboard detection, geo-fencing software, autopilot, and innovative design. Using cork instead of teak, and recycled plastics, as well as optional Flax fibre instead of fibreglass, X Shore designed its boats to support a cleaner environment. The Eelex 8000 is built with modularity top of mind, allowing users to tailor the boat to their needs and activities, and has won numerous awards including the German Design Award, and Peoples' Choice Award in the Swedish Design Festival.
The Eelex 8000 is available for delivery across the world. Priced at $329,000, the boat measures 8 meters and has a top speed of up to 35 knots, with a cruising speed of 24 knots, with an acceleration of 0-20 knots in 4.2 seconds. The Eelex 8000 travels a distance of up to 100 nautical miles at lower speeds and using a DC fast charger, the boat can be charged in an hour, or six hours on 32A. X Shore uses the safest, high-performance lithium-ion battery - similar to those found in electric cars.
