The Noosa Gaff Rig Regatta, a success for NYRC Sailability Charity. On Sunday, the 5th of June the Noosa Gaff Rig Regatta was run on the Noosa River with near perfect conditions. The wind was light and challenging but the sun was shining to create a visual spectacle. After weeks of unseasonal heavy rain the tide had stopped its strong run, a welcoming difference from prior days.

Whilst the racing was good and hotly contested, the real winner is NYRC Sailability Charity with $800 of race fees donated.

Two divisions of boats raced, Trailer sailor and Couta type boats (division 1). Under 16’ open dingy (division 2).

Three races of two laps were held over the backdrop of the Noosa Come Together Festival, all the skippers and crew enjoyed sailing with a background of live music.

Overall Results:

Division 1 (handicap results)
1st David Bardon in “Cirrus” a beautiful Cygnet 20, all the way from the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria
2nd Will Hardcastle in “Amethyst” another beautiful Cygnet 20, from NSW
3rd Valere Oddoux in “Petit Bateau” a gaff O’Day Mariner 20, from Noosa

This year NYRC Gaff Rig Regatta had 16 Gaff Rig or similar entries for the regatta on the Noosa River with competitors coming from all Eastern States as well as local Noosa boats.

At the request from a number of competitors the NYRC next year are planning a 2 day Gaff Rig Regatta plus an additional organised "River Raid' cruise on beautiful Noosa River.
