On 13th July, in the prestigious New York Yacht Club's exceptional venue in Manhattan, for the first time ever the presentation of the Genoa International Boat Show took place in the financial capital of the United States of America.

During the occasion, audiences were treated to a preview of the Boat Show, scheduled to take place in Genoa, Italy, from 22nd to 27th September this year.

Such an important event for the entire Italian boating industry deserved a unique location for its announcement, none better than the global Capital of US business, New York City.

With its renowned historical heritage and prestige, the Big Apple has always played a central role in the global yachting sector. Together with Miami and Fort Lauderdale in Florida, the city is a world leader in terms of research, innovation and cutting-edge boat design.

The United States invariably represent the world's number one market for Italian yachting's commercial presence across the world. With 10 years of continuous double-digit growth, the US market is a record-breaking location for the Italian boating industry.

2021 saw a turnover of approximately 500 million dollars and 2022 is showing a +102% increase over the same period.

This comes as no surprise as the Italian boating industry represents the driving force of the Made in Italy brand with yachts and boats that successfully combine the world's highest standards of technology, design and materials, with outstanding performance, innovation, style and creativity.

A clear sign of the global response to the Made in Italy brand's exclusive know-how and experience can be seen in the numerous Italian companies that remain unmatched leaders across the sector, and in the Genoa International Boat Show, an event of absolute international importance.

The only way to properly admire the entire range of innovations at the heart of the production process of boats and yachts sporting the Made in Italy brand is to visit the Genoa International Boat Show, the only international showcase for the Italian marine industry, which, at its upcoming 62nd edition scheduled to take place from 22nd to 27th September, will make over 1000 boats available to a global audience of visitors.

The export of Italian yachts reached an all-time high in the early months of 2022, touching the threshold of 3.5 billion dollars making the American market a clear strategic and essential target for our shipyards.

The communication campaign to promote Italy's excellence in the boating industry, thanks to the partnership developed over recent years by the Italian Marine Industry Association and the Italian Trade Agency, begins today in New York and will serve to consolidate the established leadership of sales in the United States, the number one destination for boats and yachts flying the Made in Italy flag. - Stefano Pagani Isnardi, Head of the Italian Marine Industry Association's Research Department.

If 2021 was a record year for Italian sales in the US and 2022 has already kicked off with double digits, then this year - and the years to come - will surely be a year destined to sustain and reaffirm the reputation of authentic Made in Italy products across the US, starting from New York: we did it in May for fashion, design and jewellery with Italy on Madison; we did it for food and wines in June at Fancy Food; and in July for boating. And more will happen across the US starting with Miami, then Los Angeles, followed by Chicago and Houston - Antonino Laspina, Director of the New York Italian Trade Agency, US Network Coordinator.

With our industry's global leadership, it would have been impossible not to communicate its key importance to its leading commercial market and while, on the one hand, we have increased the number of trade events and companies taking part, we are also in New York for the first time and have plans to be in Fort Lauderdale, always striving to communicate to the world the importance of this sector and of this International Boat Show - Carlo Angelo Bocchi, Miami Italian Trade Agency office.

Panellists taking part in the event included:

  • Fabrizio Di Michele, Consul General of Italy in New York
  • Antonino Laspina, Director - New York Italian Trade Agency, US Network Coordinator
  • Carlo Angelo Bocchi, Director - Miami Italian Trade Agency office
  • Andrea Fiano, Moderator - Editor at Global Finance
  • Stefano Pagani Isnardi, Head of the Italian Marine Industry Association's Research Department
  • Marco Segato, CEO of Sanlorenzo Americas
  • Sergio Sagramoso, Americas Representative of Cantiere Del Pardo
