Tornado World Championships at Yacht Club de la Grande Motte - Day 1

by Yacht Club de la Grande Motte 30 Aug 2022 01:55 PDT 27 August - 3 September 2022

Since this Saturday, August 27, the YCGM is organizing the Tornado World Championships. This former Olympic Catamaran class is honoured this year in La Grande-Motte. About thirty boats are present at the club and among them, more than 10 different nationalities.

After a first training race which took place on Sunday 28th of August, the YCGM organization and the competitors were able to settle down, allowing them to compete in good conditions from Monday 29th of August to Saturday 3rd of September.

On the program of this Monday 29th, first day of competition, 2 races of about 1 hour were planned.

The races were voluntarily delayed, allowing for optimal weather conditions.

The first start was given at 2pm. The competitors sailed in a South-East wind at a speed of 8 knots (average wind conditions).

This race saw the Greek boat ahead of a Czech boat, itself ahead of a French boat.

With weather conditions still optimal, the race N degrees2 could be launched immediately by the race committee for a beginning of procedure around 3 pm with wind conditions similar to the first one.

This second race ended with a podium strictly similar to the first one.

Tomorrow, 2 races are also on the program starting at 1pm, weather permitting. Note that the boats will still be visible from the beach, in front of the Yacht Club of La Grande Motte.
