Italian shipyard, FIM, formally founded in 2019, is already proving itself to be a huge contender amongst the most reputable and important players in the yacht industry with its most recent addition, 470 Regina.
After making her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival and at the Genoa Boat Show, the 470 Regina has been awarded "Best Revelation Of The Year", a highly respected recognition received by an international jury during the Yachts Trophy Gala Dinner that took place on Saturday, 9th September. The sales figures confirm the success: FIM will build four further units of this 15m boat by the end of next year.
"It is definitely a source of pride to have received this international recognition." FIM remarked after winning the prize. "It is the just reward for all of the sacrifices and efforts that an emerging brand must make. It demonstrates that we are on the right track and gives us the drive to continue with new projects and developments."
Although still a young shipyard, FIM founders Corrado Piccinelli and Manuela Barcella possess over 20 years of experience in the construction, refitting and services field.
Piccinelli describes 470 Regina as "A beautiful boat with unexpected spaces. The family feeling with the 340 Regina is clearly evident, but this new boat has some unique characteristics that set her apart from the boats that are currently on the market. The 470 Regina has a revolutionary bow, with a movable sunbathing area and a central pool".
A new way of experiencing the bow, appreciated by the Yachts Trophy's Jury
The Bow Life concept was one of the key features that impressed the Jury. The bow solarium can be divided into two halves and moved to the sides creating a beach area. This can be filled with water to create a small pool or transformed into an additional dining area by adding a table. Furthermore, this configuration will ensure natural light to the front cabin, which is located beneath.
FIM's designers described the bow: "It is usually the most sacrificed area of the boat, when in fact it hides enormous potential because it offers privacy and greater contact with the sea. This is why we decided to recreate a second cockpit in the bow, with an electrically opening sunpad and the possibility of adding various accessories: a table for lunch and dinner, a solarium for moments of fun, and a canopy for moments of relaxation."
Bringing its guests closer to the sea is one of the 470 Regina's focal points. Equipped with folding balconies and divisible solariums, 470 Regina features both modular and versatile solutions that ensure the maximisation of the outdoor spaces.
The stern platform features a lifting and handling system that enables the hauling of a small tender or jet ski.
Interiors: comfort and Made in Italy
Along with the bow, the FIM team recognizes the interior layout as one of the boat's strengths, which led to the "Best Revelation Of The Year" award, saying "rarely do yachts of this size offer such ample space below deck," where the amalgamation of both comfort and luxurious Made in Italy furniture demonstrates the shipyard's care and taste in choosing the decor and accessories.
The interior layout features two luxurious master cabins of 2.15m height, that are both bright and spacious, each with its own private shower and toilet. The forward owners' cabin provides versatility by allowing the area to be configured depending on the owners' wants and needs. For those planning on a night aboard with several guests, a three-cabin configuration is also an option.
FIM partner and one of the founders of Liu-Jo, Vannis Marchi was also a key member in the design process, influencing style and aesthetic decisions.
The use of modern ALPI woods make for a warm and inviting ambience that oozes elegance and sophistication. The FIM team's extensive research of materials and décor is evident upon entering the toilets. Countertops are in Laminam, finished with a marble-effect that complement the Velis fixtures made by the Italian company Nobili.
Elegant wallpaper upholstery, Artemide lamps, Made in Italy furniture and sophisticated leather inserts are just some of the deluxe accessories meticulously chosen as décor for this 15m open.
FIM's expansion: new production facility, new models and new dealers
FIM is rapidly growing, as evidenced by the recent signing of new dealer agreements, the relocation to a larger production facility, and plans for new models that will broaden the product line.
At the beginning of the month, the shipyard opened a new 5000 m" production site, which will increase the production capacity. In 2023, FIM plans to introduce the 420 Regina, as well as the coupé and flybridge versions of the 50 ft.
With four 470 Regina in production for the 2022-2023 season, FIM has spoken of the yacht's importance and has seen new dealers show interest in the brand, saying "during the fairs, we concluded dealers agreements for the French Riviera and Canada. Another couple of very attractive market that we are aiming for are the Middle East and South East Asia."
