The new 60 kW powered 4X is now available for purchase, with the 9m model under construction.

European shipyard, EJET, brings the world's first high performance electric jet tender to the market. The 4X, a 3.95m superyacht tender, was born after refining a prototype through years of extensive testing. This has led to the development of a new high-performance electric powertrain, boasting a continuous electric power of 60 kW.

Additionally, a new and optimised hull was developed to ensure stable and smooth navigation - even at its top speed of 35 knots. The tender has a range of up to 40 nautical miles.

CEO of the company, Žiga Jarc, explains the company vision: "From the very beginning, our objective was clear: to create a Jet Tender that could not only rival traditional petrol powered competitors, but surpass them. We honed in on achieving faster performance, extended battery life, and I'm proud to say we have accomplished it. We have delivered a well-balanced vessel with exceptional performance capabilities, while adhering to rigorous safety standards."

After the successful launch of the 4X, the team embarked on the construction of the 9m model, of which some renderings have been made public. Aptly named the 9X, this model will also feature the cutting-edge electric jet propulsion system.

3 core values: experience, sustainability, and innovation

EJET's 4X epitomises the three fundamental values that lie at the heart of the brand: Experience, Sustainability, and Innovation. Each vessel crafted by EJET will encompass these principles.

The design of the 4X makes it capable of offering unique experiences to both the owner and their guests. Equipped with electric propulsion, it allows for exploration of untouched areas, while preserving the natural environment. This feature is increasingly valuable as more locations restrict the use of petrol-powered engines. Moreover, the jet propulsion system stands out for its shallow draft compared to outboard or sterndrive options, making beach landings and exploration of hard-to-reach areas much easier. Additionally, the 4X has a ski hook for exciting water sports activities such as wakeboarding and waterskiing.

The custom powertrain is managed by an electronic control unit (ECU), offering various driving modes (Eco, Normal, and Power). By setting the drive mode on the 7-inch touch display, it is possible to use the tender at its full potential, while also allowing less experienced sailors to enjoy their time at the helm. Smooth navigation and seamless steering are provided thanks to the hydraulic steering system, and the new hull designed for easy manoeuvring in all weather conditions. Notably, the 4X is also comfortable to ride during turbulent sea conditions.

From a safety perspective, the actuator system operating the reverse bucket enables the possibility of a rapid stop, even at high speeds, in case of an emergency.

In case of a low battery level, the 4X seamlessly transitions into the Eco Battery mode, ensuring a secure return to shore or the mother ship. The tender is equipped with LED navigation lighting for better safety during night-time navigation. Optional underwater lights also allow for night swimming.

Stepping inside the 4X, guests are welcomed by a touch display with integrated GPS. The meticulously crafted upholstery features water-resistant embossed patterns, preventing any water penetration. Customers also have the choice to enhance their experience by installing a high-quality Garmin Fusion sound system. To add to its luxurious appeal, the tender is equipped with a contactless RFID key, further distinguishing it from its competitors.

Electric power and charging options

The jet propulsion system of EJET's boats is built to withstand the test of time with minimal maintenance. By harnessing the power of electricity, these boats eliminate the possibility of oil or gasoline spills, aligning with sustainable practices. Not only do they offer an eco-friendly solution, they also contribute to a superior experience when exploring natural environments. As the world increasingly embraces greener energy sources, EJET envisions its electric boats being exclusively powered by clean electricity.

Žiga emphasises, "We aim to collaborate with yacht manufacturers who share our vision for a cleaner and more sustainable yachting industry. One possible solution that we highly appreciate is the integration of solar panels into the yacht's design, enabling the use of clean and renewable energy to power the yacht and charge the tender".

In their commitment to sustainability, EJET has chosen to incorporate Permateek, an alternative to traditional teak that mitigates environmental concerns associated with sourcing the latter.

When it comes to the range of the electric tender, EJET leads the market with the largest battery capacity in its size range. Customers are presented with two charging options: a standard 6 kW charger with a portable cable for convenience, or a fast-charging 12 kW option that completes the charging process in just 4 hours. The 4X can be charged either from the shore or from the mothership, with EJET offering dedicated charging stations that ensure the tender is always ready for use.

A 9m tender currently under construction

EJET is not only focusing on the 4X, but has also embarked on the construction of a new larger tender, the 9X, set to make its debut at the start of next year. At the heart of this exceptional tender lies a powerful 270 kW electric engine, complemented by a robust 223 kWh battery. With this combination, the 9X achieves a remarkable speed of 35 knots, and a range of 50 NM.

Designed to meet the diverse needs of EJET's customers, the 9X tender will be offered in two variants: one with a rigid T-top and the other without. However, the most striking feature is the hydraulic stern platform, which not only creates a small private beach, but also facilitates access. In the neutral position, the platform is flat, but can be easily raised or lowered thanks to a well-designed mechanism that turns it into steps, making access to the tender extremely easy.

Additionally, the tender can be equipped with convenient amenities like an ice maker and refrigerator, further enhancing the overall onboard experience.

The 9X tender can be swiftly charged using a fast charger, completing the charging process in just 4 hours. This will ensure that owners can make the most of their time on the water.

EJET's unique approach to electric propulsion

In the pursuit of developing a high-performance, reliable, and safe electric propulsion system, the EJET team dedicated years to extensive research and development. Shipyards focusing on electric propulsion are now spreading, as the market becomes increasingly crowded. EJET understood that to be the first to introduce a high performance electric jet to the market, they needed a fresh perspective that sets them apart from competitors.

"When it comes to electric boating, most often, people turn to the automotive industry for inspiration," Žiga began. "But we quickly realised that this approach comes with limitations. A boat, being on the water, presents a completely different challenge. The density of water is 830 times higher than that of air, which means it's like constantly climbing uphill. This led to a host of problems that demanded a different approach and exploring uncharted options".

Gathering knowledge and expertise from various sources, EJET focused on engineering a custom high-performance electric powertrain. Žiga emphasised their commitment to creating a solution that is powerful, safe and reliable.

"Our aim was to engineer a system that delivers exceptional performance, requiring minimum maintenance, safe and always ready for getting in the water."

To bring their vision to life, EJET collaborates with VOM creations, led by Jalen Vogelnik, as well as naval architect Andrej Justin, and the skilled engineers at Alpha Creation. Their combined expertise and innovative thinking have paved the way for the development of the 9X tender, scheduled to touch the water at the beginning of next year, before being presented at the 2024 boat shows.

Ejet's CEO said: "We are witnessing a significant surge in demand from clients who not only prioritise sustainable yachting but also aim to reinforce their commitment to an eco friendly lifestyle through their choice of tender.

With all our production slots for 2023 already sold out, we encourage clients to act swiftly to secure their high performance electric tender for the next summer season. By doing so, they will elevate their yachting experience and also contribute to a cleaner, greener world"

Looking ahead, EJET is preparing to increase its production capacity in 2024, and has plans to expand its range of superyacht tenders by introducing a 7m model, completing their offering for discerning customers in the yachting industry.
