Progress report of Rustler's new R41 Motor Yacht

Hull #1 is well on the way and will have a truly stunning walnut interior. The attention to detail that our team are putting in always impresses. One example is four curved veneer panels on either side of the berth.

Our craftsmen hand laminate these, to the exact radius that will flow into the curved-fronted drawers beneath the forward berth. The walnut grain pattern runs vertically through a pair, and each pair have mirrored grain. This means if a mistake is made on one of the panels, all four have to be remade.

We had planned to have our first motorboat on the water later this year, and no we might not manage it (!). It's not the meticulous attention to detail of our craftsmen that caused the delay, but the production of the moulds.

The R41 was designed using CAD so the mould plugs can be precisely carved out by a five-axis milling machine. As this is something Rustler rarely need, we outsourced creating the plug (the positive shape needed to make the moulds) and the moulds to a UK company. Like so many other UK companies, it has struggled with staffing and materials supply - no, we can't think why either. The result was the moulds were delivered six months late and this has knocked back the launch date. Hull #2 has been sold, and will be following quickly in the wake of #1.
