Oldest videos of sailing in American E Boats (Melges E Scows)

by Magnus Smith 1 Dec 2023 15:59 PST

Our video archive is fully searchable, and linked to all the clubs and classes in our database. It is updated weekly with the latest videos of sailing, but here we delve into the past, and round-up everything that shows sailing in E Scow dinghies, also called E Boats.

(N.B. This class is different from the UK's E Boat - that is a more modern class of yacht.)

The video is from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in the 1930s and has a narration added from one of the sailors originally featured.

There is also this video from Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin in 1939 which may show the same class of Scow (Sail-World welcomes your corrections!).

There is a very long video from the 1950s which mostly has C scows, but apparently includes A and E scows too... can you spot them?

Finally we have footage of the M20 Scow and E Scow from some time in the 1960s.
