The International 29er fleet is one of the fastest and most hotly contested youth fleets for sailors aged 13 and above and is proud to welcome sailors of many ages and support diversity amongst our athletes who race alongside each other in a unique and tight knit community.
As part of the 2024 Med Sailing regatta and the popular International 29er EuroCup series, 38 all-female teams entered into the third EuroCup, held in the familiar waters of Club Nautico, El Balis - one of the largest and most closely contested 29er EuroCup events of the season.
The racing was extremely close and due to light winds and therefore challenging conditions for racing, within the Women's fleet there was a very close battle for the medals and beyond. In the end, showing consistency pays off, Irish team mates Clementine van Steenberge (2023 World Champion) and Jessica Riordan (2023 Women's World Silver Medallist) clinched the Gold medal with only one result outside the top ten in the combined racing putting them an impressive 11th Overall.
Taking the Silver Medal after picking up an unfortunate Black Flag in Race one and a 26th in Race five, was the Italian team of Victoria Demurtas and Caroline Karlsen who also posted three top 3 race finishes during the event putting them 13th Overall.
Marleen Huisman and Anne De Kort from the Netherlands fought hard to take the Bronze Medal amongst unbelievably tight racing, placing 16th overall.
The 29er EuroCup circuit now moves on to Hyeres and Slovenia in March/April and in the meantime the sailors will be returning home to train and prepare. Benefitting from the many valuable lessons learned in Spain, they will be ready to make their mark once again on the race course and on the score board.
