As the 55th Antigua Sailing Week is about to commence in the Caribbean, the St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association, based at Lackford Lake in Suffolk, is looking forward to its own celebration, with the eleventh running of its annual Antigua Sailing Day Regatta on 26 June 2024.
SESCA's Antigua Day Regatta started out as a small fun event in 2013 (along with the likes of its Daffodil Trophy, KitKat Cup, Mars Marathon and Greene King Can) to make a change from the club's traditional spring, summer, and autumn race series. However, a press report of the first Regatta was picked up by the Antigua Sailing Week race committee, which resulted in the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority contacting the club and offering to come onboard as the event sponsor.
With the Tourism Authority's generous support, the SESCA's annual Antigua Sailing Day Regatta has become the highlight of the Club's racing and social calendar. In keeping with Antigua Sailing Week, the SESCA event organizers have striven to make the event bigger and better each year. The club is hoping to exceed the record 43 entries this year.
Once again, there will be three races for adult and junior divisions and lunch time entertainment from a genuine steel pan band, courtesy of the Tourism Authority. If you can't make it to Antigua this year, come and enjoy some of the flavour of the Caribbean in West Suffolk.
Visitors and spectators are welcome but please bring no dogs, as the club is in a nature reserve.
