2024 Loro Piana Giraglia Day 2

by Yacht Club Italiano 9 Jun 12:07 PDT 7-15 June 2024

The second day of racing at the Loro Piana Giraglia 2024 offered another great sporting spectacle in the crystal-clear waters of Saint-Tropez.

The 129 crews, representing a diverse range of nations, competed with great determination in challenging conditions due to the short wave, showcasing the global appeal of this regatta. The weather conditions proved ideal for an exciting day of racing, with a steady wind between 15 and 20 knots that allowed the yachts of all groups to perform at their best on an unusual day for this time of year. The sky remained grey, but at least it spared the participants from rain.

The president of the Yacht Club Italiano, Carlo Cameli, stated: "We are extremely pleased with how this second day has unfolded. The quality is very high, and the crews are showing an extraordinary level, as we saw today in the manoeuvres and handling of the boats. Conditions were not extreme, but still not easy. The Loro Piana Giraglia continues to be a flagship event in the world sailing scene, attracting more and more enthusiasts and professionals in that mix, which is a fundamental part of this regatta's DNA".

Regarding rankings, the results of day 2 of the Loro Piana Giraglia show the race's fierce competition and thrill. Among the big Maxis, always engaged in the buoys at Pampelonne, after another two races of the day, Sir Peter Ogden's Jethou managed to get ahead of Peter Harrison's Jolt with a one-point lead in the overall standings. In the Maxi B Group, the day's victory went to Guido Paolo Gamucci's Mylius 60 CK. Among the IRC 1, another confirmation for the Red Bandit team, Carl Peter Foster's TP52, while Guy Claes' JPK 10.10 Expresso won today's race among the IRC 2.

In the ORC 1 group, Marcin Sutkowski's Grand Soleil 44 Windwhisper44 was another first of the day, as was the ORC 2 group, with Luca De Luca's First 34.7 Melagodo leading the provisional ranking list.

After the usual daily awards ceremony at the crew village, the Loro Piana Giraglia is set to round the mark for the third day of racing tomorrow at 11 am, with forecasts of fresh wind and sun.
