X-Yachts Aurum Cup 2024 Overall

by Mark Jardine & Kevin Wallis 24 Jun 01:32 PDT 21-22 June 2024

The second day of the 2024 X-Yachts Aurum Cup saw cooler weather, shifty breezes, and rain! The fleet of 12 yachts headed out into the Sydney Sound at Middle Head for two races in two divisions.

Congratulations to Erica - Xp 44 (Peter Williams) and Xcapade - Xp 38 (Bradley Hastings & David Ingram) - Division One & Two winners respectively on PHS. On ORC handicap, Xcapade also clinched the division win, with Toy Box 2 - Xp 44 (Ian Box) securing the top spot in Division One.

The winner of the 2024 X-Yachts Aurum Cup, and a week's charter of an X-Yacht in the Greek Islands, was drawn from the placegetters in the Saturday races. The winner was Sal Ridulfo's IMX 40, Excalibur.

Following the prize-giving, 62 people enjoyed dinner at St. Siandra Restaurant.

Kevin Wallis, Managing Director of X-Yachts Australia & New Zealand, said it was rewarding to see the X-Yacht community have fun, laughs, and a little competition on a challenging day on the water. Wallis confirmed that the X-Yachts Aurum Cup will be an annual fixture going forward. Dates for 2025 will be announced later this week.

Competitors were full of praise for the inaugural event: Ray Hudson said, "Thanks for a great regatta, prizes, and the functions - well done and a very enjoyable way to get the X-Yachts community buzzing!"

David Ingram added, "Thank you for all the work that went in to organizing the regatta. Despite the weather our lot all had a great day, and winning some prizes always helps!"
