The HYS Cape 31 National Championship kicks off today at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. The fourth Cape 31 National Championships is set to be raced in Christchurch Bay (weather permitting), providing an epic venue for three days of racing.

The event attracts top-notch sailors from across the country, all vying for the coveted title of 2024 Cape 31 Class National Champions.

The Race Team, led by Peter Saxton, expects to run a series of adrenaline-fuelled races, testing the competitors and providing close, intense racing.

With a mixed forecast—big conditions due this weekend will be a real test for the new teams, and probably a bit of a gift to the older teams who have had the opportunity to race more in windy conditions. Either way, with a lot of mix-up within teams, it will be a regatta to watch to see which team will come out on top.

Can 2023 champions Jubilee do the double? Firm favourites are Khumbu Red, Chaotic, and Jiraffe, the overall podium holders in the series. Following Khumbu Red's second-round win of the season just a few weeks ago at the Royal Southern Yacht Club, can they continue their form into the Nationals? Chaotic has been the most consistent, with second place in every round so far this season—can they push that extra bit to pick up the Nationals Trophy?

The trophy, donated by HYS, has been used by the top high-performance class of the year in the Solent. With names like Jubilee, Fanatic, Squirt, and Niklas Zennström's Ran on the trophy, our 2024 winners will be in good company!

As well as our overall division the Corinthian/1 Pro division is hotly contested this year with multiple winners so far this season, Antix, Bodfather and Tonto won Rounds 1 - 3 respectively. The race will be on for the top Corinthian/1 Pro win!

As well as great racing, competitors will be treated to Harken Dock Beers on Friday, followed by a class dinner at the Royal Lymington. On Saturday, after racing, rum and beer will be provided by Mount Gay Rum and RLymYC.

Updates over the weekend will be available on the Cape 31 UK Facebook and Instagram pages and via the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. The Cape 31s are all based at the Lymington Yacht Haven.

Thank you to our UK Class Partners for supporting our events—Quantum Sails, North Sails, Doyle Sails, Peters and May, Mount Gay, Ocean Art, Harken, and Cyclops.
