Stunning footage of EDGE 65 in Bahamas

by Van der Valk Shipyard 29 Jun 10:21 PDT

Our camera crew have just returned from an exciting shoot of the EDGE 65 in the Bahamas. While this sporty blend of luxury cruiser and offshore speed machine would be equally at home exploring shallow waters and breathtaking bays the world over, the launch model for our latest bespoke line was custom-created with the Exumas in mind. And, as you can see, living life on the EDGE has rarely looked so good. Click here for more details and images.

Ultimate weekender

The EDGE 65 is the third motoryacht ordered by a three-generational family of owners. Having taken home several prestigious awards for their previous projects - LeVen and Lady Lene - the EDGE 65 was designed as the ultimate weekender. With her home berth in Nassau, the yacht can effortlessly reach the Exumas within four hours at a cruising speed of 30 to 35 knots. And if the family are in a hurry for a Friday dinner date, they can throw open the throttle and fully power up their four Mercury V12 Verados to hit a top speed of 41 knots.

The EDGE 65 is impressively stable, with no slamming even in choppy waters. Her ability to comfortably cross oceans and explore shallow waters in places like the Bahamas thanks to a draught of less than three feet is a further asset achieved by exterior designer Cor D. Rover, Studio Delta Naval Architects and Petestep Hull Design.

Patio on the sea

When spending weekends in gorgeous parts of the world, having the chance to chill out close to the crystal-clear water is surely a must. That was certainly the philosophy of the EDGE 65's owners who have hugely optimised the outdoor experience on their latest build. A fold-out platform spanning some 48 square metres of deck space makes for a fantastic patio on which to embrace the al fresco life in style.

The relaxation options are further facilitated by fully opening doors aft of the main deck interior structure, which itself features a delightful open-plan galley area. This first EDGE 65 revolves very much around entertainment, while future clients could adapt the GA to fit a more conventional lounge and/or dining area.

Who's next to the edge?

The first EDGE 65 has an Aston Martin Racing Green hull colour that makes her appear to be absorbed by the water. This custom choice - future owners can pretty much go for any colour they like - superbly complements a powerful and sporty exterior design with a masculine feel that seamlessly blends with the feminine interior designed by Carla Guilhem.

Other options include opting for a two-cabin layout with a larger master suite and a separate bathroom and switching to inboard propulsion. The EDGE 65 could also serve as a high-end chase boat for larger superyachts, providing access to shallow bays while the mothership stays out at anchor. The second hull is now available and Carla has drawn up some inspiring renderings of how the next interior might look like. Weekends will never be the same again

Weekends will never be the same again when you're the proud owner of an EDGE 65. Combining a 40-knot top speed with the ability to make ocean crossings in comfort and also explore shallow waters thanks to a draught of under three feet, the world is at your feet. With a fold-out platform spanning some 48 square metres of deck space offering the ultimate in outdoor life, and an interior designed to meet your specific tastes and requirements, the EDGE 65 will ensure your time on the water creates many special memoires.

Smart power, smart thinking

The EDGE 65 featured on these pages was fitted with four Mercury V12 Verados outboard engines, offering an exhilarating total of 2400 hp. Every aspect of the yacht was optimised to benefit speed and reduce underwater friction. An inboard propulsion option is also available based on the tremendous amount of engineering and smart thinking that went into the launch model you see here.

Smooth ride

The EDGE 65's powerful performance is matched by optimum seakeeping comfort. This is the first Van der Valk to feature Petestep's revolutionary hull technology, with three deflectors fitted in a V-shape to radically reduce resistance and slamming, boost speed and give you the driest as well as smoothest ride. The launch model featured an Aston Martin Racing Green hull colour but you can choose your own livery to complement the powerful and sporty exterior design.

Down by the water

The design of the EDGE 65 provides for an exceptional amount of enclosed real estate and the option to be as close to the water as possible on a 20-metre boat. The large aft deck morphs into an outdoor pleasure platform with fold-down balconies creating some eight square metres of additional space. There is also room on the flybridge for a dedicated crane to enable the yacht to carry a small tender and/or jet ski.

Chilling around the island

The bespoke interior of the first EDGE 65 offers a unique take on an Art Deco-inspired beach style. Dispensing with the traditional lounge, the yacht has a country kitchen galley arrangement with a bar - the ideal place for guests to sip cocktails and gather around the island chatting. This relaxed vibe is heightened by a smooth blend of modern-classic marine elements with a colourful Bahamas beach feel... But here too you can choose a style and ambience on your EDGE 65 that matches your preferences.
