If you are not exhibiting and are looking for a winter weekend adventure to keep every family member entertained, look no further than the Sydney International Boat Show, which brings an assortment of boating, sailing and marine experiences to Sydney from August 1-4.

Returning for its 55th year, the Show is a highlight of the international boating events calendar, as well as a popular day out for the whole family. The young and young at heart can explore and compare more than 600 boats and thousands of marine products, and enjoy an exciting line-up of entertainment and educational masterclasses. From learning the art of sailing to discovering the latest fishing techniques, there is something for everyone.

Exhibitors posting details of their exhibits include Horizon Yachts. They are gearing up for a stellar display at SIBS. Prominently on display in a prime location at the Cockle Bay Marina entrance in Marina M 147, the FD80 will be holding everyone's gaze with her captivating presence. "Building on the momentum of the 2024 Horizon Open House and the 2024 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, we're delighted to be bringing a stunning FD80 to Sydney," said Mark Western, Horizon Yacht Australia Director. "Our discerning Australian audience will have the exclusive opportunity to experience this coveted AMSA 2C-certified, charter-ready FD80, which has already piqued considerable interest ahead of its arrival."

Also at this year's Show, Australian dealer, TMG Yachts, will represent Lagoon Catamarans at the show and have the beautiful Lagoon 46 and the flagship SEVENTY 8 on display. The 46 expands your cruising possibilities, with ample spaces combining functional and social elements. Each person will find the perfect spot onboard.

On June 21, newly-appointed dealer in Hong Kong ASIAMARINE hosted a Lagoon x ASIAMARINE Launch Party to celebrate Lagoon's 40th anniversary and the new partnership at the prestigious Aberdeen Marina Club. The party also offered exclusive viewing opportunities for guests to explore the magnificent SIXTY 7.

Yellowfin Plate Boats is taking its range to the next level with their new Extended Cabin models, challenging the fishing industry with new, innovative designs and boat upgrades. They have recently expanded their dealer network and are now available at a new dealership located on the South-East coast of Queensland at Gold Coast Boating Centre. Gold Coast Boating Centre is one of Australia's largest boating dealerships, known for its exceptional service, convenient location and servicing options.

On June 8, Beneteau's dealer in Japan First Marine hosted a celebration party to commemorate Beneteau's 140th anniversary at City Marina Velasis, serving as a great occasion for the country's Beneteau owners' community, potential customers and sailing enthusiasts to gather together, sipping champagne while sharing their Beneteau stories.

Marine Rescue NSW has held its first ever multi-agency flood rescue and operational readiness exercise as the Service enhances its flood rescue capability to support NSW SES and other agencies during significant weather emergencies across the state. After receiving $3.7 million in state government funding following the 2022 NSW Flood Inquiry, Marine Rescue NSW developed a State Operations Group with volunteers undergoing specific flood rescue and support training on the Service's newly acquired multi-purpose vessels and associated vehicles and equipment.

And last but definitely not least, eight bells Bob Ross, the editor of the Australian Sailing Magazine that he co-founded in 1976.

The renowned sailing photo journalist, newspaper writer, magazine founder, editor, book author, sailor and friend, died on Friday in his 92nd year after an extended illness. Bob stood head and shoulders above all in our profession, hailed the most respected sailing writer in Australia and ranked among the best in the world. To the point, honest and always giving boating enthusiasts an enjoyable read, he lived and breathed sailing.

Wherever he went, to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, where he was a member since 1970, to other clubs and to social occasions, Bob arrived pad, pen and camera, ready to record the next good story. All it took was a few conversations with other guests. A New Zealander by birth (but we claimed him as our own), Bob spent his early years in the Finn dinghy, competing for Olympic selection in 1964 and 1968. Moving to Australia, he raced competitively and with success in J24s and offshore events, winning the 1986 Sydney-Mooloolaba race as co-helmsman on Bill Dodds' Nuzulu.

I worked with Bob at Yaffa Media for five years before he retired. Bob was the editor of Australian Sailing Magazine, when I was the advertising sales rep. His knowledge of sailing was unsurpassed but he was also very modest and was always willing to offer advice but never from a superior stance. His editorial coverage is legendary and his articles contributed to the success of the magazine. He will be sadly missed. Condolences go to his wife Eve, his family and friends.

Stay alert,
