Close competition throughout the fleet

Sixteen visitors attended the Supernova open meeting at Burton SC. Conditions were warm, with light and very shifty winds to start with, improving through the day. There was even some planing by the end!

In the first race, Alex Reeve led early on but was overtaken by Andrew Wilde (borrowing the Class Association loan boat), chased by Tom White. On the third lap, Tom came through from third to first on the beat to take the lead, and a duel ensued between Tom and Andrew. On the line, Tom won in a photo finish. These three finished well ahead, with the fleet becoming quite stretched out behind them.

In the second race, Alex and Andrew were close early on, but Andrew finally pulled away to take the win. Alex was second, with Chris Aubrey in his Mk1 taking third and Tom fourth.

So, for the final race, any one of three could still take the win: Andrew, Tom or Alex. Competition was close between those three, with Andrew leading most of the way, Alex hard on his transom and Tom chasing. Nevertheless, they finished in that order, giving Andrew a well-deserved victory with three bullets - hopefully providing the incentive to join the fleet permanently following his previous successes in other, lesser classes. Tom was second overall and Alex third, with Chris taking the Mk1 prize.

Burton SC was as welcoming as ever, enabled by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. The race officer provided excellent racing despite the conditions, with three different courses. Many thanks from the Supernova fleet.
