As the UK Wayfarer Association Craftinsure National Circuit draws to a close for 2024, the excitement is palpable for the final two events at Blackwater Sailing Club and Bough Beech Sailing Club.
This season has already seen great racing at the likes of Datchet Sailing Club, Banbury Sailing Club, Shoreham Sailing Club, Arun Yacht Club, the Nationals at Paignton, Aldeburgh Yacht Club, and a first-ever event at Leigh and Lowton. There has also been great Wayfarer racing at the likes of Medway, Waldringfield, and Parkstone in one-off club events and regattas. Congratulations to all our winners at these events!
The upcoming events at Blackwater and Bough Beech promise to deliver more of the same competition and camaraderie that define the spirit of Wayfarer racing.

Blackwater Sailing Club (5th-6th October)
The penultimate event at Blackwater Sailing Club is eagerly anticipated. Known for its dynamic tidal conditions and picturesque setting, Blackwater always offers an engaging challenge for the fleet. The expansive estuary provides a mixture of open water and narrow channels, requiring precise navigation and strategic foresight. Competitors will need to demonstrate their tactical prowess and boat-handling skills to navigate the waters effectively.
The scenic backdrop of the Essex coastline adds to the allure, giving sailors an immersive experience that combines natural beauty with competitive racing. Blackwater's reputation for hosting well-organized and thrilling regattas ensures that this event will be a highlight of the season. With the series title still up for grabs, expect fierce competition as sailors vie for crucial points.
Andrew and Tom Wilson, fresh from recent victories, will be looking to maintain their strong record at the venue. They will face stiff competition from the home fleet, who are particularly adept at navigating their local waters, and other notable travellers including Guy Marks and Sam Boniface, as well as Ian Foxwell and Sam Pygall. This event is not only a test of sailing skill but also a celebration of the camaraderie and sportsmanship that defines the Wayfarer community.
Bough Beech Sailing Club (9th-10th November)
The grand finale at Bough Beech always promises to be a fitting end to the Wayfarer Racing season. The event, often referred to as the "Finale," is renowned for its unpredictable weather and tight racing at this great inland venue. The scenic reservoir will host the fleet for what is sure to be a nail-biting conclusion to the series.
With the overall standings likely to be decided in these final races, every tack and gybe will count. John Clementson and Mel Titmus, who have a strong track record at Bough Beech, including winning the 2022 and 2023 Finales, will be key contenders. The camaraderie a that define the Wayfarer community will be on full display, as sailors look to end the season with a bang. In addition, the unveiling of the winners of the Craftinsure National Circuit, Travellers competitions and "Classic Wayfarer" National Championships (non-Mark IV) will add an extra layer of excitement to the weekend.
