Flora Cup for Marblehead Vane boats at Fleetwood Model Yacht Club

by Tony Wilson 7 Oct 04:38 PDT 5 October 2024

With a roadside wind direction, the day was going to be somewhat challenging for a few. From the bridge end it was decided on 2 points out, but was this the right decision, as it looked like we had a run from both ends of the lake.

We had five boats on the water consisting of two Vintage and three Classic. Peter G, Paul and Stuart were there to assist with poling the mates bank along with the free bye boat skipper.

All the boats had some sort of problem with a pirouette at the quarter mark on the return leg during the day, where the run turned into a bit of a beat. The best plan seemed to be to run to the beach side and pull the sails in, early on.

Olly had a bit of a 'T' piece problem, whereby his earlier attempt to cut down a long pintle, was a bit too short, causing some friction with the main deck.

We had had a good dry day with plenty of sunshine and an on the time finish for a few tired legs. Thanks to all and now ready for the next full weekend of Open Marblehead vane sailing in a fortnight's time.

The Vintage boats won the day.

Results:

1 Peter Whiteside 15 pts (V)
2 Tony Wilson 13 pts (V)
3 Peter Isles 9 pts (C)
