The iconic maxi yacht and former Sydney-Hobart line honours winner, Brindabella, will compete in next February's 75th running of the Teakle Classic Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race.

This special entry marks 30 years since Brindabella first made her mark on the world stage by completing the renowned Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, cementing her place in Australian yachting history.

This will also be Brindabella's first race outing since being retired by her previous owner in 2017.

"We are incredibly excited about being able to put Brindabella through her paces and race her against some of the best of South Australian and interstate crews," Brindabella skipper and co-owner Johnny Hilhorst said.

"It's her first race outing for quite a while and we are keen to see how she stacks up in the fleet."

Port Lincoln Yacht Club commodore Hayden McFarlane said the club was excited to have the iconic yacht compete in South Australia's premier ocean race.

"I feel like even people not interested in sailing at all would recognise the name Brindabella as she is such a classic looking boat with beautiful lines and being a Sydney to Hobart line honours winner makes her very recognisable to many," he said.

"She sits comfortably amongst some of Australia's most famous Maxis, we feel very lucky to have her compete in our 75th event and can't wait to see this magnificent vessel sail into the beautiful Boston Bay - it will be a sight to behold.

"I'm led to believe it will be 30 years since making a splash in her first Sydney to Hobart, coinciding this with our 75th anniversary of our event will make it all the more special."

In addition to this momentous milestone, the Brindabella team said it was thrilled to share that the yacht had been recognised as a finalist in not only the 2024 TICSA Tourism Awards in the Adventure Tourism and Tour Operator categories, but also in SA Life Magazine's Best Tourism Adventure.

"These accolades are a testament to our dedication to creating unforgettable, adventure-filled sailing experiences that reflect the spirit and heritage of Brindabella," Hilhorst said.

To celebrate the 30-year milestone, Brindabella Sailing is offering exclusive opportunities for guests to join the team in two of Australia's most iconic sailing events - either on Boxing Day in Adelaide while watching the Sydney-Hobart start, or for the race to Port Lincoln.

Sailing opportunities will also be on offer during the Lincoln Week Regatta after the race over from Adelaide.
