Tenzor International Cup - J/70 Open Winter Series 2024-2025 - Stage 2 Day 1

by Burak Zengin 17 Jan 12:19 PST 16-19 January 2025

The second leg of Tenzor International Cup started brightly with the opening ceremony, skippers briefing and first races. Due to unstable wind and significant shifts the race management team (RC) did a good job by completing three races.

"The first day of racing was all about problem solving for the RC, as the wind was changing direction all the time between 290 and 350 degrees," commented Can Giray, PRO of the regatta. "With wind speeds ranging from 6 to 11 knots, RC had to change the upwind mark in every race. But despite all this, scheduled three races were completed with the fleet competing in high-level way. The Bodrum Aspat race course had a lot of surprises for the competing J/70, but it was also a lot of fun".

The winners of the day, Tenzor Team skippered by Andrey Pushkin, won two of three races and expressed their enthusiasm about the results.

"The day was not easy, as the wind was blowing from the shore and it was very strong. This is a traditional story for this water area, when we race in its left part, where the coast and mountains strongly influence. It was difficult day for the tacticians, but we did well, all the races were stable and we are satisfied with results. We didn't always start the race in the lead, but always got out to the top.

"The fleet raced tight, the opponents are very strong, although there are not so many boats at this stage. The situation on the water was changing quickly, so it was very interesting to race.

"The wind forecast is similar for the next two days, but perhaps we will go to another part of the water area, and there will be completely different conditions with a more steady and stable wind. According to the results, it's a good start for our team, but there's still a lot of racing ahead!" said Daniil Odintsov, Tenzor Team tactician.

It was a fantastic day on the water for Atoll Sailing Team led by Anatoly Arnautov. His crew managed to win one race and to be in top-5 in two others. So far, Atoll Sailing Team got a comfortable second place in standings after three races.

Just 2 points below Atoll Sailing Team Mikhail Senatorov, skipper of Double V Sailing team, together with his teammates finished the day.

Russian Bogatyrs and Gaswar teams completed the top-5 teams of overall in just one point difference from each other. Dolce Vita was not lucky today to be in leading group with only eighth position in standing.

In the Corinthian division it was again a tight fight between O1 Properties and Orient Express teams - two leaders of the first leg. The first two races were done superbly by Petr Bukin's crew, but then Arif Gurdenli and his Orient Express moved up finishing third in last race of this day.

Overall Results after 3 races:
1st TENZOR Team, 5pts
2nd ATOLL Sailing Team, 10pts
3rd DOUBLE V Sailing Team, 12pts
4th RUSSIAN BOGATYRS, 14pts
5th GASWAR, 15pts
