The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team has officially set sail in the 44Cup 2025, kicking off their campaign with the first training sessions in Nanny Cay.
As the only Spanish team in the competition, they approach the season with the goal of solidifying their place in one of the most competitive one-design classes in international sailing.
One of the first challenges was the official weigh-in, a crucial step to ensure the entire crew stays under the 730 kg limit set by the RC44 class rules. Thanks to careful planning and a balanced mix of experience and young talent, the team successfully met this requirement.
This season, the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team presents a refreshed crew with a strong local presence, as six of its sailors hail from Lanzarote. Among them is Ana Hernández, navigator and floater, who is making her 44Cup debut. Her inclusion underscores the team's commitment to fostering new talent in high-performance sailing.
On their first day of training, the team made the most of their time on the water, adapting to the local conditions and fine-tuning their performance. While last year's participation provided valuable experience, the crew is fully aware that each race will demand their best effort and continuous improvement.
"We are here to learn, improve, and compete at the highest level. Our goal is to progress in every race and prove that we can be competitive in such a strong and established fleet," explains Alfredo González, the team's tactician.
The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team is supported by Turismo de Lanzarote, Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo de Lanzarote (CACT), Calero Marinas, and real estate developer Calmar, along with technical backing from Magic Marine as the team's official sailing gear supplier and Harken through Equipyatch as a hardware partner.
The 44Cup 2025 kicks off in Nanny Cay, British Virgin Islands, and will continue with regattas in Porto Cervo (Italy), Marstrand (Sweden), Scheveningen (Netherlands), and Marina Jandía (Spain). For the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team, this season represents an opportunity for growth and consolidation in one of the most demanding sailing competitions in the world.
