A slight change to Maritime Safety Information broadcasts

by Maritime and Coastguard Agency 26 Feb 06:08 PST

Two maritime safety broadcasts schedules will be merging this week to maintain and improve the important services they provide.

The Maritime Safety Information (MSI) broadcasts for Liverpool and Holyhead will be merging on 27 February, meaning the same information will be shared but in a more efficient way.

As part of the merge, the MSI will now be broadcast at a slightly earlier time for Holyhead listeners.

The newly merged MSI will be broadcast half past the hour and, to reduce any potential interference with Snaefell radio site, Great Orme radio site will be changed from MSI Channel 64 to MSI Channel 62.

The Liverpool MSI has been provided by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Holyhead for nearly ten years, meaning operations staff have been recording the same broadcast twice to represent the two locations.

An internal review identified the opportunity to improve and streamline the service provided, by merging the two MSIs into one and reducing workload. A minor change with minimal impact to listeners.

The merged broadcast will come into effect as of the 4.30pm transmission.
