Clagett Sailing is pleased to announce the selection of the 2025 Team Clagett members. The five sailors who will be representing Clagett Sailing at the 2.4mR World Championships in Lake Garda, Italy, in October 2025 are; Chuck Allen (North Kingstown, Rhode Island), Peter Eager (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), Delani Hulme Lawrence (Saint Paul, Alberta, Canada), Siobhan MacDonald (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) and Julio Reguero (San Juan, Puerto Rico). Tim Ripley (Randolph, New Jersey), is the reserve and should one of the team members be unable to attend, Ripley will attend as a Team Clagett sailor.
"The Board of Clagett Sailing is pleased to announce the members of the 2025 Team Clagett who will be competing at the 2025 2.4mR World Championships which will be held in Fraglia Vela Malcesine on Lake Garda, Italy, in October. The five team members will be representing Clagett Sailing and supported by Clagett Sailing in their individual efforts to epitomize Clagett Sailing's motto to Reach for Success. We are delighted Delani, Julio, Peter, Siobhan and Chuck have been selected and thrilled all five members are Boat Grant Program recipients. We wish them every success as they strive for their personal goals," commented Clagett Sailing President and Co-Founder Stephanie McLennan (Newport, Rhode Island).
All five of the Team Clagett members are Clagett Sailing Boat Grant program recipients with the team made up of three Canadian sailors, one sailor for the US and one from Puerto Rico.
Three members of the 2025 Team Clagett have previously represented Clagett Sailing at the 2022 2.4mR Worlds as part of the inaugural Team Clagett. Peter Eager, Delani Hulme Lawrence and Julio Reguero sailed under the Clagett Sailing colors in Tampa, Florida in 2022.
Hulme Lawrence said after being selected for the second time, "Being selected as a member of Team Clagett 2025 for the 2.4mR World Championships is a dream come true! This is my second time being on the team and I couldn't be more honored to represent the Clagett on Lake Garda. My biggest take away from being on the team when we were in Florida is that even though you are sailing solo on the water, you are part of something bigger on the shore. It was a privilege to train, prepare, and debrief with my teammates leading into the event; they really helped to set the stage for success in competition. It changes the game when you have people that you can count on."
MacDonald commented as a first time team member," I am beyond honored to be selected as part of Team Clagett for the 2025 2.4mR World Championships. This is a dream come true. Competing at the World Championships in Europe is a goal I've long coveted, but it's also a rare opportunity to challenge myself against the best sailors in the world. To represent Team Clagett on this stage would be a culmination of my years of hard work, dedication, and the unwavering belief that anyone, regardless of physical ability, can achieve excellence on the water. I'm so grateful to the Clagett Boat Program for providing the equipment I needed to strengthen my sailing skills and make me a more confident sailor on and off the water. Thank you so much to Stephanie, the Clagett family and Clagett Sailing."
Allen, who is the most recent recipient of a 2.4mR boat from the Clagett Sailing Boat Grant program, remarked about being part of Team Clagett for the first time, "It has been great being selected to be on Team Clagett. After my stroke it has given me some much-needed confidence sailing small boats again. Everyone in the 2.4mR class is welcoming and really helpful; from rigging to sailing tips right from the start. Clagett Sailing Board member Andrew Parish has helped me enormously, he's always there for a call or boat issues I may have...I can't say enough. I plan on sailing as much as possible in the lead up to the Worlds in Lake Garda, and with the backing of Team Clagett and their network, this has become a reality. I have met many new friends through Clagett Sailing from coast to coast in the US, as well as Canada, all of which have gone through similar disabilities, this has been life changing."
Team Clagett members will be supported by Clagett Sailing, who will assist the sailors with some of the costs of traveling and competing in Europe.
In preparation for the 2025 2.4mR World Championships sailors will be racing in Newport, Rhode Island at the 23rd annual C. Thomas Clagett, Jr. Memorial Clinic and Regatta which will be held at Sail Newport at Fort Adams State Park, June 18 to 21, 2025.
