Glorious sunshine and a shifty 8-12 Knot Northerly wind greeted the teams to day two of the Cumberland Cup. Despite the hospitable welcome at the Houses of Parliament none of the sailors appeared the worse for wear and indeed were sat on the start line waiting for racing to get under way at 0957.

First clubs on the course were St Francis vs Eastern and Gamla Stans vs Corinthian with Eastern and Corinthian both able to read the fairly wild shifts better and control their races.

The shifty winds caused some upsets throughout the day, and even saw the overnight leaders, Royal Thames drop two races against New York Yacht Club and Yale Corinthian Yacht Club to tighten the gap at the top to just one race win ahead of Seawanhaka who lost just one race in the tricky conditions to Yale Corinthian.

The shifty winds kept the race team busy all day long and so the day finished just short of the full round robin with five races still to play. Even with one or two races each still to sail, Royal Thames, Seawanhaka and Corinthian have all secured their places in the top four, Gold Group, but the fight for the remaining spot is still very much alive.

New York and Yale Corinthian have both sailed all of their races in the second round so they will have to sit on shore to watch and see if Eastern can leapfrog over them by taking a win against currently third ranked Corinthian.

As the racing drew to a close and the teams returned to shore, most were happy to drink a cold beer in the sunshine and debate the different tactics of the day before heading back to Knightsbridge and an evening of Garden Games in Hyde Park before Pimms and Lemonade with Fish & Chips as the sun set on the terrace of the Royal Thames Yacht Club.
