Our plan this morning was to leave Shearwater between 8:30am-9am. We were hopeful that the fuel barge had come during the night...Shearwater was out of diesel when we arrived! Ranger Tug IF really wanted to top off here so they didn't have to stop and hope to get fuel at Klemtu or Hartley Bay, where unanswered calls to the fuel docks couldn't verify availability. (If Shearwater was out, maybe the others were running low or out as well!) Likely one of them would have fuel, but it's stressful to rely on "probably."

The fuel barge had not come during the night, and in fact was apparently not going to arrive until Tuesday. Today is Sunday. However, we did learn from another boater that Bella Bella, just across the way, not only had fuel, but it was $2.20 per liter there, vs. the $2.96 per liter at Shearwater... saving them about $153 bucks Canadian. AND they got another chance to run up to the store in Bella Bella to get some ice cream they regretted not picking up yesterday. Score!

We've already resorted to a Plan B. Day 2 and we've already resorted to a Plan B. Originally our plan this morning was to leave Ganges around 7:30am to make Dodd Narrows by noon, just prior to slack, and then continue on up to Tribune Bay on Hornby Island — a long day (67nm). Posted on 31 May

We made lunch at Fury Cove We made lunch at Fury Cove, the other two boats left (they maybe had been waiting for the fog to burn off), and after a whole lot of overthinking by me, we decided to get around Cape Caution this afternoon instead of waiting for morning. Posted on 4 Sep 2024
