The Superyacht Cup Palma 2025 swung into action today, with captains and crews across the varied and inspiring fleet seizing the opportunity to take the measure of the competition out on the racecourse.

The opening day's Pantaenius Race got under way right on time in six to eight knots of breeze, with the 38.7m Hoek Truly Classic Atalante leading the fleet away, soon followed by her Hoek stablemate and regular Class A rival Vijonara as the staggered start sequence rolled out.

During the course of the race the bright though increasingly lighter wind sailing conditions resulted in a shortened course for both classes. In Class A the nimble 39m Tripp designed Cervo emerged on top, repeating her first day victory of last year and edging the 35m Southern Wind yacht Gelliceaux into second place.

"We started off with good breeze up the first beat and a good first run, but then we ran out of wind and the boats behind caught up with us," said Jens Christensen, tactician on Cervo.

"We had a couple of good legs but then Gelliceaux got ahead of us on a wind shift. We got back in front on the final run and from there were able to keep it under control. All in all it went really well for us."

Vijonara took the third spot on the podium, while technical issues after training meant the brand-new Hoek Truly Classic 128 Linnea Aurora was unable to race today, but is expected to join the fray tomorrow.

Over in Class B the well sailed Baltic 68 Café Racer Open Season was just able to keep the hard-charging SYC title defender Rose at arm's length around the course, as well as the three other Café Racers — third placed Ganesha, Scorpione Hormar and Pink Gin Verde — and the Y8 Yacht Sveam on her regatta debut.

"We set out to sail our own race today," said Loic Fabre captain of Open Season. "We were a bit late at the start but we were able to put it all together to the first mark and I think we sailed well.

"We were able to keep Rose behind us so we were able to do what we had planned. As a crew we have been together quite a long time, and that of course makes a difference as well."

Back on the dock at The Superyacht Cup Palma's new Venue Partner the Club de Mar-Mallorca, owners, skippers and crews could compare notes at the Pinmar Yacht Supply Happy Hour, ahead of the St. Regis Midsummer BBQ for owners, one of the highlights of the SYC social scene.

Racing at The Superyacht Cup Palma 2025 resumes tomorrow at 12:00 following breakfast provided by Southern Spars and a SYRA meeting.
