In a departure from tradition, the St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association's '6th Antigua Sailing Day Regatta' will not coincide will Antigua Sailing Week, at the end of April, but will be held on 24 June.
This later date will hopefully provide rather more tropical conditions than experienced in the last few years and allow even more of a celebration of the Caribbean's premier sailing event.
SESCA's Antigua Sailing Day Regatta will be held at Lackford Lake, 5 miles NW of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. Once again, the Club is delighted to be receiving the generous support of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority, who will be providing a steel band for lunch time entertainment and prizes of a suitably Caribbean nature.
This unlikely partnership came about as the result of a Google alert, which brought reports of SESCA's first Regatta to the attention of the Antigua Sailing Week Race Committee. With the Tourism Authority's active encouragement, the Regatta has become the highlight of SESCA's sailing and social calendar.
This year, the Regatta will again feature racing for adult and junior divisions. Due to the size of the Lake, we can only accept entries from non-trapeze dinghy up to 4.5m. We anticipate that the adult fleet will principally comprise of Lasers and Laser Radials, with the junior fleet being mainly made up of Toppers and Picos. There will be a special prize for the Sea Cadets.
If you can't make it to Antigua, come and celebrate Sailing Week with us.
Please note that no dogs are allowed on site as the Club is in a nature reserve.
