Nordhavn will be showing its new 63 aft pilothouse cruiser at the Newport International Boat Show, starting Sept. 12. With a hullform based on the popular (and well-proven) Nordhavn 55, the 63 will take you anywhere in the world. It's powered by a single 325-hp John Deere diesel, and it carries 2,500 gallons of fuel, so it definitely is capable of repeating the route of the historic Nordhavn Atlantic Rally 15 years ago, from Fort Lauderdale to Gibraltar (with stops in Bermuda and the Azores).
If you want to stay closer to home, the Nordhavn 63 will carry you in safety and comfort. The pilothouse is situated aft for a comfortable ride in big seas. The pilothouse also offers a lower profile and lower center of gravity than a flybridge. Because of the aft pilothouse, the foredeck is super-sized, large enough, in fact, for a 17-foot RIB or dinghy.
The pilothouse on the 63 has two helm seats, a massive helm station for electronics and engine monitors, and an L-shaped settee with a table to serve as a social area under way. Behind the settee is a watch cabin with a double berth and a head and shower.
Below, the swim platform is large and the underside is curved, to eliminate the sound of waves slapping when at anchor. The cockpit has aft seating and a table. It's protected from the weather by the overhang from the pilothouse, as are the wide side decks leading forward.
A watertight door leads to the large, warm salon, with a long sofa, two lounge chairs, and an elegant high-low table that has a removable leaf. The home-like galley is forward on the same level. It has a long U-shape and is large enough to hold two people working at the same time.
Three steps down, the accommodation deck has the master stateroom midships, with lots of storage and an en suite head and shower. The guest stateroom is forward, with a centerline, walk-around bed; it too has lots of storage space and its own en suite head and shower (this also serves as the day head).
In the Nordhavn fashion, the engine room is large, with working and walking around space on both sides. Just forward of the engine room is a crew quarters with a fixed berth and a pipe berth.
