There is so much to look forward for the Supernova Class this coming year. The New Year began with the news that the team at Hartley Boats have been designing and extensively testing a new square top, radial cut mainsail. The fleet have brought into the design concept, so many of us are now awaiting delivery news when our new 'engines' will be dispatched for testing and training.

The calendar is also looking really well planned; it is user friendly, visiting a range of clubs around the country, with a decent spread of dates.

At the heart of the season is the return to Plas Heli up at Pwllheli on the Llyn Peninsular for our Nationals over the Friday, Saturday, Sunday of 28th - 30th June. Last visited in 2022, we experienced three big days of racing in fabulous conditions with an entry just topping 100 sailors making it one of the largest adult single hander fleets out there. This year our target is 120, and we genuinely believe that is achievable.

The team up at Plas Heli are once again ready to welcome us to the Welsh National Sailing Academy, with its amazing facilities and sailing waters in the northern reaches of Cardigan Bay.

The racing will be competitive whatever your sailing ability. Those at the sharper end of the fleet are always there to offer support and guidance to those whose have yet to master the dark arts of rake, kicker and cunningham controls. The class is proud of its buddy grouping system where each ten or so sailors are supported by at least two 'Gold' Fleet sailors.

This year's event also sees a change from age related categories to more skill-set scoring system. Still in its infancy, the class have acknowledged that basing a sailor's category on their age feels somewhat dated. More information on this will be made available closer to the event.

So what next? Entry is open at www.supernovadinghy.org/nationals-2024

The support the class receives from Hartley Boats has made this an incredibly good value event. Full price entry is £130, if you enter by the 2nd March you get 50% discount for three days of outstanding sailing. That is £65!!!!

So get your membership renewed, get your entry in, plan your 'training programme' including your bar stories and join us at Plas Heli for what feels could be yet another amazing Supernova event.
