The RS400 Class Association, in collaboration with the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, is excited to announce the publication of the Notice of Race for the RS400 Eurocup and UK & Irish National Championships, taking place from 3rd to 8th August 2025.
Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club (RNIYC) is gearing up to host over 60 boats for what promises to be a spectacular event. Known for attracting the crème de la crème of UK and Irish sailing talent, this year's championship is set to welcome competitors from across Europe.
The home contingent will be led by Irish champions Bob Espey and Mike Ferguson, fresh off their victory in the fiercely competitive RS400 Winter Series. They will face tough local competition from notable sailors like Olympian Peter Kennedy and Steve Kane. Former Mirror World Champion Ross Kearney, teaming up with Andrew Vaughan, will also be vying for a spot on the podium.
From the south of England, Chris Eames (Formally from the Strangford locality) and Rachel Tilley, who placed second in 2022 and fifth in 2023, will be strong contenders for the overall title. They will also be in close competition with Yorkshire's Ollie Groves and Esther Parkhurst for the coveted First Female Crew prize. Groves and Parkhurst, runners-up by a single point after ten gruelling races in 2023, have been training intensively and are determined to claim victory this year.
Veteran Andy Powell, who has fond memories of sailing at RNIYC during the 2019 RS400 Nationals, is returning to compete in the Bronze Fleet. His enthusiasm is matched by the talent travelling from Southern Ireland, with competitors like Govan Berridge and David Coleman from Killaloe, and Chris Helme and Alan Claffery from Blessington. Former Irish champion Barry McCartin is also expected to make a much-anticipated return to this highly competitive fleet.
The Event
The championship will feature ten thrilling races over five days, from 4th to 8th August, under the expert management of PRO Sheela Lewis. A coaching session will also be available on 3rd August to help participants refine their skills.
Renowned for its outstanding hospitality, the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club has planned a vibrant social programme alongside the racing. From full days on the water to lively evenings, including an unforgettable night out in Belfast, this event promises something for everyone.
Entry for the event opens at 6pm on 1st February 2025
