James Brown was proclaimed as "the busiest man in showbusiness." That busiest moniker also can be applied to the Race Committee at Larchmont Yacht Club that just published its 2025 Regatta Schedule.
This iconic 145-year-old Club is running one manner or another of racing almost every day starting in May. In addition to the 20 major regattas the Club is hosting, LYC sees its fleets of Ideal 18s, z420s, and its nine new Sonars in constant use during the week with coaching, racing, and just casual sailing.
This year, Larchmont Yacht Club will be the host club for three major championships: The US Team Racing Championship for the George Hinman Trophy (September 26-28), the USODA Team Race National Championship (May 16-18), and the Lightning Class's Women, Masters, and Junior Championships (August 8-11). Always on LYC's schedule are its annual Larchmont Race Week and Larchmont Junior Race Week (July 11-20), the Robie Pierce Regatta for sailors with disabilities co-hosted with American Yacht Club (May 29-June 1), and the season-opening Edlu Race, a mid-distance race for racer/cruisers.
This year marks the 70th edition of the Edlu Race is scheduled to start early on Saturday, May 10, the Edlu offers two courses: a 32-miler and a non-spinnaker 20-miler. The Edlu is the perfect opportunity for skippers and crews to test their gear and get ready for the coming season. After the race is concluded, there's a great party back at LYC that you won't want to miss.
In addition to the prospect of winning the prestigious Edlu Trophy, a boat's performance in the Edlu is combined with her performance in Storm Trysail's Block Island Race (May 23) to earn the Tuna Trophy, recognizing Arthur "Tuna" Wullschleger's contributions to both Clubs, and the Bookends Trophy, which combines a boat's performance in the Edlu and the LYC/STC Bitter Ender Race (October 18).
"In my opinion, LYC's Race Committee Chair Karen Ronan definitely will lead the busiest race committee on Long Island Sound and beyond," said LYC Commodore Chris Schoen. "In addition to the dozens of formal regattas she and her team will organize and run, there will be countless days of informal club racing, team racing practices, and junior races schedule that will keep everyone on the water this summer. And for a Club embracing the mission to provide world-class racing and cruising sailing, this schedule hits its mark."
